The lure of a Coffee House... Part 2The decor of any Coffee House is really up to the owner. Today a more common theme is to incorporate a more a reclaimed – industrial urban look. While others prefer to constantly evolve with different colors and styles. They key is to be inviting and appealing all while being efficient for both your guest and staff.
The Menu is one of the most important items you will need when beginning or re-inventing your design. A Coffee House and Cafe, for example, will offer a variety of food in an attempt to maximize appeal and profits. They require additional storage and prep space. Also if you’re planning to open in a smaller town, I highly recommend this concept and menu to appeal to a broader clientele.
It is advisable to draw out any plan on paper and if doing the design yourself, actually get measurements for all equipment and cabinets and create ‘cardboard’ cutouts and use tape to ‘layout’ and walk through your intended design. Be sure to leave room behind the counter for all equipment needs and also when permutable, for future expansion needs as well.
Make sure you think of the following:
All equipment needs
Counter and work space
Kitchen and storage space
Drive Thru window is wise if at all possible.
Also be sure check with any and all city and town building inspectors to include building, electrical, plumbing, zoning and fire inspectors before committing to any lease or purchase of a site. They key is to minimize uh-ohs and costly ‘surprises’. Due diligence is a must! more to follow on my next blog!
